Our ground vanilla beans are made from "virgin" vanilla beans.
Post-Extracted Ground Vanilla Beans are beans that have been used once before for making vanilla extract, so they are not "virgin". Some manufacturers use their beans more than once. Post-extracted vanilla beans have only a hint of flavor left in them and are used mainly for "look" and feel, rather than to add flavor.
1/2 teaspoon of ground vanilla bean = 1 teaspoon of extract = 1 teaspoon paste
2-inches of bean=1 teaspoon of extract
1 whole bean = 1 tablespoon extract or paste
