Hand Cream, Hand Lotion, Natural Hand Cream, Organic Hand Lotion

Although we make and sell our own body lotion and body butter, we encourage you to experiment and develop your own recipes because there is no “one size fits all” when you take into consideration all of the factors involved when it comes to skin care: heredity, skin type, diet, environment, age, allergies, lifestyle etc.

Natural body lotion or butters can be made with ingredients that might already be in your kitchen or medicine cabinet and here is a basic formula to get you started:

• 1/4 cup almond or olive oil
• 1/8 cup coconut oil
• 1/8 cup beeswax

• Optional: 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
• Optional: 1 tablespoon Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter
• Optional: Essential oils or natural extracts

  1. Combine all ingredients except the optional natural extract, Vitamin E or essential oil in a suitable glass jar or Pyrex measuring cup and place in a pot of simmering water.

  2. When everything is melted, remove from heat and let cool for 5 -10 minutes then stir in the the the optional natural extract, Vitamin E or essential oil.

  3. Stir occasionally until mixture starts to solidify then pour into small containers or allow it to solidify in glass jar.

This is a basic natural hand cream and hand lotion recipe: feel free to edit and adjust to preferences.

About Hand Cream, Hand Lotion and the Differences Between Them

Hand creams are created in various formulas for different purposes such as for moisturizing, anti-aging, or to prevent sun damage. Hand creams are typically a thicker, greasier formula than hand lotions. They work by creating a barrier that holds moisture in while lubricating the skin. Hand creams and lotions contain oils, water, emollients, and any additional vitamins, perfumes, and antioxidants the manufacturers formulate for their products.

For the most part, hand lotions and hand creams are the same in terms of their function and purpose, but they have different properties that make them distinctly different. In a very general comparison, hand creams are made up of a 1:1 ratio of water and oil, while hand lotions contain much less or even no oil at all resulting in a much thinner consistency.

It’s really a trial-and-error process when it comes to finding the right moisturizers for your skin type. In general, for oily skin it’s better to use a hand lotion with little to no oil in it, while drier skin types may need the oils of a hand cream.

We are in the process of redesigning the packaging for our handmade, natural Hand Cream and will update this page when we re-launch.
